2017 Year in Review

New_Year.jpg

Thank you to everyone who has contributed, volunteered, and supported our efforts over the past two years! We're grateful to be part of such a caring and generous community and we look forward to another busy and successful year ahead. With your continued support, we can achieve our goal of opening the sanctuary in 2019!

Here are some updates and highlights of our accomplishments in 2017:

Funding: Since our founding in 2016, many kind people have contributed over $33,000 in donations and $25,000 in pledges! You've helped us get closer to our goal of raising $100,000 in funding for property and infrastructure.

Property: Either through purchasing ourselves, meeting potential land patrons, or joining with local land trusts and conservation organizations, we are actively working to find and acquire the right property within an hour or less drive of Richmond, VA.

Outreach: We introduced Porchlight to thousands of future supporters through social media and furthered our presence by exhibiting monthly from Spring - Fall.

Annual Events: We organized Richmond’s first ever Tofurky Trot 5k, helping to raise awareness and over $2,000 in contributions from generous attendees.

Support: We established new ways to support Porchlight, including merchandise, a vehicle donation program, recurring monthly donationstribute donationsAmazonSmile, and the Kroger Community Rewards program.

Board Development: We welcomed new board member, Julie Sutton, to our team. Julie is now serving as treasurer and brings over 15 years of accounting experience as well as event organization skills.

Volunteers: We developed the beginning of our volunteer program and welcomed our first volunteers.

Networking: We developed relationships within the sanctuary movement, receiving advice from various founders of other sanctuaries.

Planning: We completed our first business plan, helping to solidify our vision as well as increase our understanding of the budget and resources we will need. Our business plan is also a crucial resource as we work with potential land patrons and foundations.
